I made this blog because a photo of my husband and I has gone viral on the internet. I wanted to share the story behind the photo for the hundreds of thousands of people who found inspiration through this sweet moment we had.
The Story Behind the Photo
Moments before I was to walk down the aisle my soon to be mother in law came in the dressing room where my bridesmaids and I were all gushing with giggles and fluttering about finishing last minute details.
“Sweetheart, your groom has called for you!”.
In a nervous tizzy I said, “What?! I’m not ready! I have to get my shoes and…” She had already taken my hand and led me to a corner, where my groom was waiting. I barely sat down; I was filled with so much anticipation! So much excitement! So many nerves!
“Is he going to like my dress? Does my hair look pretty? Can he see me?!”
Right around the corner sat my soon to be husband, I so was nervous he might see me yet secretly hoping to catch a glimpse of him. In my excited state I was the first to speak,
“Hi sweetie! We’re getting married today!”
“I know baby and I want to pray with you before we do.”
There we sat around the corner hand in hand, and together we bowed our heads. People were rushing about; the wedding coordinator directing people here and there, the photographers snapping photos and the bridal party enjoying each others company. Yet in that moment, in the quietness of our hearts and minds, my husband and I were alone in the presence of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
My husband prayed that God would bless our marriage, that through thick or thin together we would never lose hope in one another. That instead of focusing on each others imperfections we would always rely on Christ’s perfection. That we would wake up every day and chose to love one another not through our own strength but by the power of Christ’s perfect love.
With our hands clenched tightly to one another together we said “Amen”, both with shaky voice and just like that I was whisked away to blot the tears off my face and put on my veil.
After my bridesmaids, mother, mother-in-law and every other girl in the room had finished zipping, curling, tucking and blushing me up I looked in the mirror. There I stood wearing my pure white wedding dress, ready to walk down the aisle to my Prince Charming.
See, he is not only my Prince Charming because of his incredibly handsome looks, or wonderful humor, or the fact that we have so much in common. He is my Prince Charming because he helped me protect the most precious gift that I owned, my purity.
Soon after we had started dating I nervously told my Prince that I was a virgin and planned to be until the night of my wedding; to which he replied he would have it no other way.
Throughout our dating relationship and engagement we constantly fought, what at times felt like a losing battle. We fought temptation with prayer, scripture and accountability. I had friends checking up on me if they knew we were together late at night and he regularly met with other Godly men to pray for strength. At times, especially as the wedding grew closer, we thought we were attempting to do the impossible.
“Why are we doing this?” I would ask in my weakness, and he would remind me, that it’s because God had told us too.
“I can’t do it, I can’t… this is too hard!” he would confess to me and I would pray for his strength.
When I walked down the aisle in my white dress, I looked straight into the eyes of the man that had laid himself down to protect and honor the wife that God had given him.
When his eyes first caught mine he looked into the face of the woman that had waited for him, the woman that would support him and love him for the rest of His life, through good times and bad.
I share all of this because in that prayer we prayed, which was captured here on camera we asked the Lord to use our wedding to bring Him all of the glory that He rightfully deserved. We had not gotten where we were by our own strength, but by His hand of protection on our relationship.
God has used this photo to inspire hundreds of thousands of people already and for that we are humbled and honored! I wanted to take it a step further and give God praise and thanks for how we arrived at that quiet corner, holding hands and ready to begin our lives together.

excerpt from Love Mirage

  • “I did it for you. It should have been you…nailed on that cross.”
  • “What for?”,” I exclaimed.
  • “For the penalty of your sins.”
  • “Why did you take my place?”
  • “So you wouldn’t have to suffer it all…so you wouldn’t stand under judgement…so you can live and be with me wherever I go. So you can talk to me as I talk to you…so I can have your heart. I did it because I love you, don’t ask me another ‘why’…I chose to love you.”

Our Faith Rests on God’s Power (Appetizer - XLM 8/25/11)

1 Corinthians 2

4 and my teaching and message were not delivered with skillful words of human wisdom, but with convincing proof of the power of God’s Spirit.

5 Your faith, then, does not rest on human wisdom but on God’s power.

Paul clearly said that our faith rests on God’s power so we must also speak of our faith by God’s wisdom given to us by the Spirit.

If our faith relies or depends on our own wisdom and our own might, we’ll stumble; we’ll fall and we won’t be able to finish the race of faith.

Sadly, many Christians today feel burdened in sustaining their faith, that’s why they feel very depressed whenever they feel coldness.  They would even decide to walk away from God.  I’ve read many blogs and write-ups containing these kind of sentiments.  ”I want to walk away from Christ.  I’m sick and tired of living this Christian life”, “I know God would we waiting for me to come back because I have FREE WILL to do so”, “I gave my everything to God, every sacrifice that I can but God seems so far away, I just want to end this.”…These are just some of those.  People who think this way might have not understood the real salvation of God, (only by GRACE!not from human and not of human so that no one may boast Ephesians 2:8-9) which is “by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone”.  These people might have thought that they played ‘some’ part in their salvation so they think that it would just be also that easy to DECIDE to stray away from God’s hands…to fade out from their faith.

BUT for those who believe in ‘by grace, through faith, in Christ’, the saying of Paul in 1 Corinthians 1:10 “He will also keep you firm to the end, so that you will be faultless on the Day of our Lord Jesus Christ,” is very true.  It’s in God’s hands (our salvation and preservation to the end)..it’s not ours.

With regard to preaching/sharing/evangelism, also many Christians would carry the burden whenever the one whom they have shared the Gospel with did not respond to it.  Statements like “I did everything to convince him”, “I did a good strategy to make him say YES”, “After all my hardship and prayer, he didn’t DECIDE to follow Christ”…It’s sad that many Christians neglect that it’s not by our own wisdom that we can share Christ.  It is not our mouth that speaks.  It is not our mind that works.  It is God’s hands at work in us whenever we share.  You can go back to the XLM 1 Corinthians 1 (especially in verses 23-24) that God purposely enable some to understand the saving power of Christ which is NONSENSE to some other.  There are those whom God has called for which He grants the wisdom through the Spirit. This should be made clear to all Christians (saved by grace through faith).

PRAYER:

Pray to God that everytime we share Christ, we won’t be tempted to rely on our own wisdom.  Pray that God’s Spirit will enable us to share and preach.

God’s Wisdom Revealed to Us (Main course - XLM 8/25/11)

1 Corinthians 2

God’s wisdom is unfathomable; it’s rich; it’s unparalleled.  Will this wisdom be also revealed to us?  Read this (it says it all):

6 Yet I do proclaim a message of wisdom to those who are spiritually mature. But it is not the wisdom that belongs to this world or to the powers that rule this world - powers that are losing their power. (to whom should we preach message of wisdom?  to spiritually mature people.  They can understand this, but the world can’t.)

7 The wisdom I proclaim is God’s secret wisdom, which is hidden from human beings, but which he had already chosen for our glory even before the world was made. (the secret wisdom is really proven to be available only for those He had chosen before the foundation of the world. Those whom He predestined)

8 None of the rulers of this world knew this wisdom. If they had known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. (This reveals the amazing Sovereignty of God in His saving purpose.  He did not enable the ‘rulers of this world’ - in context the Romans who crucified Christ — to understand His wisdom because if they did, Christ would have not been crucified and salvation would be impossible.  It is God’s will and means that Christ would die for the salvation of the chosen people)

10 But it was to us that God made known his secret by means of his Spirit. The Spirit searches everything, even the hidden depths of God’s purposes. (amazingly, God has made His secret known to us by His Spirit.  We are not fools, we are not of this world who doesn’t know anything of God.  God enable us to understand His mystery and His will)

12 We have not received this world’s spirit; instead, we have received the Spirit sent by God, so that we may know all that God has given us.

13 So then, we do not speak in words taught by human wisdom, but in words taught by the Spirit, as we explain spiritual truths to those who have the Spirit. (So we don’t rely on ourselves and in our skills - any skills like public speaking, theology, philosophy, etc. - but we only get our wisdom from the Spirit.  And those who also have the Spirit can understand God’s wisdom well)

14 Whoever does not have the Spirit cannot receive the gifts that come from God’s Spirit. Such a person really does not understand them, and they seem to be nonsense, because their value can be judged only on a spiritual basis.

————————-

PRAYER

in verse 10 it says that God’s Spirit knows all about God.  If we want to know God more and to know His perfect will and purpose, let us pray that the Holy Spirit will reveal to us and give us wisdom in everything.  Let us also pray for those who also have the Spirit that they may also be one with us in spreading the Good News (to unbelievers and believers) and the spiritual truths (to believers and spiritually mature).

2 MISTAKES that people habitually think of to make it to heaven

  • Pastor: There are 2 biggest mistakes that people habitually think of to make it to heaven. First, "We can go to heaven by doing good works." Second "We can go to heaven by not doing good works."
